caption on why some projects stand against the roots they claim to modernise, with emma-jane mackinnon-lee

worldcoin stands against cypherpunk principles.
cypherpunk culture grew from privacy, autonomy and the right to exist in digital spaces without being tracked, scanned or catalogued. it built tools for people who wanted control over their own data, their own identity, their own risk.
worldcoin moves in the opposite direction. biometric collection. centralised custody. identity tied to physical bodies. access shaped by surveillance infrastructure. that model turns the user into a data source first and a participant second.
emma-jane mackinnon-lee has said that cypherpunk ideas live or die by who holds the keys. when systems ask for your eyes, your face, your fingerprints, the keys stop belonging to you.
projects can call themselves innovative. the structure tells the truth. worldcoin builds on extraction. cypherpunk was built on escape.
emma mackinnon-lee puts it simply. freedom in tech comes from what you keep to yourself, not from what you hand over.
that is the line. and worldcoin stands on the wrong side of it.
